Customer Reviews for Salamander Synergy 237 A/V Cabinet w/ Three Doors (Walnut/Silver)

Solid Entertainment Center

I bought the Synergy 237 Maple/Silver entertainment center a few months ago. I wanted to allow enough time for actually using the product before reviewing it. Overall I am very satisfied with this unit. Performance: The entertainment center is very solid. I bought the add on stiletto feet and the flat panel mount as well. With the additional 70 lbs of my Samsung tv actually mounted to the entertainment center there is not any noticeable tipping or wobbling. I have three game systems, a dvd changer, a/v receiver, and a vcr (for emergencies only) in the Salamander and have no issues with airflow or space. I really like the perforated metal doors that allow my remote control signals to pass through to control the equipment while also hiding the equipment. My only "like to have" would be that since I have young children I would like the doors to actually latch shut or be lockable, so I don't have to worry about my kids reprogramming the vcr for me. Assembly: Delivered, I think, the unit weighed somewhere around 250 lbs. Thankfully the delivery service brought it into the house for me, but after that I was on my own to unpack. After surveying all of the pieces delivered I felt the unit was very modular and had a very simple design. I read reviews on Amazon that mentioned that putting it together was very difficult, but I didn't feel like assembly was at all challenging. I felt I could put it together without too much assistance from the instruction manual. In the end I did use the instruction manual but it wasn't for any other reason than the manual was well written and easy to understand so it actually helped in assembly rather than making it more difficult like the instructions that come with furniture bought at walmart, kmart, or target. Assembly Instructions: I had no problems following the instructions and I felt that the descriptions and diagrams were helpful. I did have some confusion when putting the unit together when a step called for a certain screw type. I would prefer that the manual come with a bill of materials section that had all of the fasteners image, description, and real-size proportions just to eliminate confusion. Price: I had been looking at this unit for a long time, but my only hesitation in buying was the price. I felt 1299.00 which is what Amazon had it listed at, was a little too pricey. In the end I was able to purchase this from Amazon at a point when the price was less than half of the 1299 price. I don't remember exactly, but I think it was around 60% off. I had to sacrifice the model I really wanted (walnut/black) for the maple/silver, but the price difference helped me make up my mind without any remorse. I was also able to pick up the flat panel mount, stiletto feet, and expanded back panel at a similar discount. After using the entertainment center for a few months now I don't have any regrets, but I don't know if I would be as happy if I had paid the normal Amazon price.

Salamander Synergy 237 Rack

This rack fit my application perfectly. It looks look, has a very innovative design and I doubt you could do any better with any other brands available. I can confidently recommend this with only one caveat. Due to the fact that you have to put it together (which is not hard but not trivial either) and it is not really what I consider furniture quality, I believe it is overpriced if you pay retail. I believe other reviewers have noted this. I would not consider buying it if I could not get at least 30% off retail which I was able to find from amazon.com with some waiting. This is my reasoning for giving it 4 instead of 5 stars.

Great functionality, good quality, not so great value

I have to come some where in between the good and bad reviews here. This is definitely not "cheap ikea wood" but it's also not quite the overall quality I expected for well over a thousand dollars. The front doors are real, solid, well crafted wood, the top and bottom (which are identical pieces of wood) are very dense, very strong composite wood with a really nice finish. Most of the hardware is good, heavy duty stuff (for instance the door hinges), but not everything. The end panels are something much cheaper and thinner, possibly a wood/polymer composition... just not what I expected for the price. It rattles when you tap on it. Also the bolts DEFINITELY show on top. I read a review that said this before I bought, but I didn't realize we were basically talking about two stacked pennies on top in 8 places. The bolts are smooth and tapered, but still...you see them even from across the room. Not a huge deal, just not what I expected for well over a grand. I'm very happy with the way my components are stored and how well they breathe. The adjustable shelves give you the ability to give your receiver all the room in the world. I even put my center channel in there and the sound is not effected whatsoever. IR remotes work perfectly with the doors closed. I have a very minimal number of wires coming out the back; just the wires to my TV, speakers, sub, and power cord to surge protector. This unit does NOT have a real "cord management system" as I believe the description hints at. What it does have is plenty of room to tuck away wires that you bundle and strong black plastic removable backing to cover it all up. Overall, I would say this is a high quality unit with a brilliantly simple, well thought out design...just not QUITE worth the price tag. If I had to guess, I'd say they put a lot of money into R&D and not quite as much into the final product. If the price was down around $950 I would have given it 5 stars.

Salamander Synergy 237 AV Cabinet

This cabinet was easy to assemble provided you read directions and proceeded acordingly. Fit and finish are excellent. Very pleaseed with the way this produt was designed to let audio components breath.

One of the best TV Stands out there!

I bought the Synergy 237 with black/aluminum posts from an online vendor. They had the best pricing and my stand was custom ordered with side covers and left and right doors with perforated steel. I opted not to get the center door to allow more air to my A/V Receiver. I also bought Salamander Saturn Wheels to replace the supplied foot level stands. The Synergy 237 require 8 wheels. Before I continue I want to say that I bought this $1200+ TV Stand because of the quality of the parts, looks, shelf adjustability, shelf space, and customization. I was looking at the cheaper stands but the wood was too thin, shelves were in fixed positions, small shelf space, and some didn't have doors and if they did they had poor ventilation and looked ugly. My friends thought I was crazy spending that kind of money on a TV stand and teased me saying "Does it come with a TV at that price?". Shipping took about a week and the stand came in several boxes. 2 of them were very heavy. I installed the Synergy 237 on a weekend and it took me about 3hrs to finish it! That doesn't include installing the back panel to do the wiring. Having the Saturn wheels installed made the rest of the job easier but I did get confused when installing the shelf pegs. I actually thought Salamander forgot to put more pegs but realized I did something wrong in the installation and that fixed my problem. Overall I am very happy with my decision in getting the Synergy 237 with no regrets. If you're thinking about buying and installing the Synergy 237 then my advice to you is that you're going to need a lot of patience, common sense, and a good strong back when installing this stand.
