The Pioneer KURO PDP-6010FD is a 1080p plasma television featuring an exceptionally bright and clear 60-inch screen, one of the larger sizes available among consumer models. Outstanding Video Performance With a screen as large as this, high resolution becomes more important because it is more possible to view each pixel from a distance. The PDP-6010FD is a native 1080p display, meaning it has a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, the highest standard available. The black levels on plasma screens are generally superb and this unit is no exception, with blacks that are an intense, deep black and a picture that has very high contrast as a result. The display features Pioneer's new ASIC video processing and scaling, which upconverts standard definition and other video resolutions for viewing at 1080p. A variety of noise reduction circuitry ensures a distortion-free picture at all times. Users can manually adjust the color temperature, gamma, and the levels of noise reduction circuitry and filters to fine tune the picture to their exact specifications. An optical light sensor automatically adjusts the picture for optimal viewing depending on the ambient light in the room, compensating for night and day and for the content of the video, such as sports, movies, or news. The PDP-6010FD also has a film mode that eliminates motion judder and provides smoother playback of film content. The PDP-6010FD is capable of remembering six picture settings for various A/V selections, with Movie, Game, Standard, Dynamic, and Optimum modes, as well as a user-defined preset. You can also set one of five aspect ratio presets in case you're watching standard-aspect 4:3 television. The television can also be set to auto-size when zooming is necessary. Connections for all your Components The PDP-6010FD has a large complement of inputs, including four independent HDMI 1.3 inputs (two with analog audio). Additionally, it has two component inputs, three composite inputs, and one S-Video input. There is a USB connection that can connect a storage drive for viewing of photos. A built-in CableCard slot enables the PDP-6010FD to work with cable services without an extra decoding box. An ATSC and two NTSC tuners are built in and fully integrated for use with picture-in-picture and picture-side-picture modes. The television has outputs for Dolby Digital/PCM, audio, subwoofer, SR+, and headphone. The TV Guide On-Screen programming guide is included as well. Great TV, but you need to be aware of an issue with getting service on this TV. If had the TV hung on a wall, you must have the TV down for the service to happen. I This is a pretty whopping sized box (technical term) and it takes two people to take it down.

Outstanding color rendition, deep blacks, perfect clarity, remote is a bit cluttered/confusing, price is very high. Workmanship on my unit was not good, there was no product support. Authorized repair shops poo-poo fixing without warranty coverage. Flawless performance for literally 52 weeks. Scan boards (2x), Drive boards (2x) and power supply burnout resulting in catastrophic failure $1500 and 60 days without TV. Pioneer refused any warranty authorization. Tip: Buy it w/Amex and cross your fingers tightly. It's a great plasma...... when it's working. $$$$$

I normally write rather long, detailed reviews of electronics, but in this case, I'll be brief. As of October 2008, you will NOT find a better picture on any LCD or Plasma TV anywhere. "But what about that Samsung I saw at Best Buy?" -- This is better. "But what about that Sony I saw at Circuit City?" -- This is better. The blacks are solid. The reds pop off the screen like you won't believe. Buy this TV, don't look back, and you'll be as happy as you can be. I can't imagine that any 1080p TV will ever look significantly better than this. As for mounts, if you want an articulated mount, the TV is balanced in such a way that a slightly over-engineered mount is a good investment to keep it stable. The Peerless PLAV70 with the PLP-NEC61 adapter plate is perfect. The SA760P mount is also great if you don't need to extend the TV as far but you want top-notch cable management. It also needs the PLP-NEC61 adapter plate.

I have owned this TV for almost a year now. I have yet to see something better. Expensive, but worth every penny. No regrets.

I admit I am not an expert in this area. Nor was I looking for all the toys/gadgets that let you do anything and everything with your television. Just someone who wanted a great television for his family. After the research, settled on the Pioneer PDP-6010FD . I have not been disappointed. The picture is excellent, the internal settings and options are easy to follow and it simply looks great. The external light sensor that changes the picture depending on the light in the room is an unexpected bonus that really makes a difference. The downside is you really need someone/a team to hang this for you (we put ours above our fireplace). The remote is a little intimidating, a bit hard to get used to but that is a minor annoyance. Overall, the reviews about how good a television this is are simply correct. Other reviews can tell you about all the internal details but for this review, this was money well spent and a television that has the rare ability to actually live up to its billing. One last thing. The leading electronic dealership in the US will give you a song and dance about why you should never make this kind of purchase through Amazon. Be warned, it is not true. Amazon was significantly cheaper and the execution and delivery was flawless.
