Now you can play your entertainment library on one versatile machine. Since the 23HLV87 has both a DVD player and a 23-inch screen, you won't have to worry about connecting different electronic components in order to watch your favorite program. This convenience is matched only by its smart, stylish design. The Value of LCD TVs Aside from their obvious aesthetic value, LCD TVs are much more practical in the home than CRT (tube-style) televisions. They take up a smaller footprint, and thus use up less floor space in the room. Also, LCD TVs are lighter and easier to move around when cleaning or redecorating. This screen also has a pixel resolution of 1440 x 900 -- which qualifies it to display 720p HDTV images. A built-in comb filter reduces digital artifacts produced by signal noise, making for more detailed images. Full-Featured DVD Player The 23HLV87 includes an integrated DVD player compatible with several disc formats: DVD Video, CD-R, CD-RW, VCD and DVD-R. This player is also DivX home theater certified, which means it display popular Internet video formats, such as DivX, AVI, and MPEG4. Similarly, MP3 and WMA-encoded music files recorded to disc will play nicely. An interesting feature of this player is Digital Picture Zoom, which allows you to select and magnify an area of either freeze-frame or motion video. Connections The set has a built-in digital television tuner, so out of the box it can receive digital broadcast ATSC signals and QAM signals used by most digital cable providers. It also has a built-in 181-channel NTSC tuner, so it can also accept traditional analog signals. It is also capable of the following connections: HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface): 1 ColorStream HD component video inputs: 1 S-video: 1 RF: 1 PC input: D-sub 15 with L/R audio Digital audio out: 1 optical Headphone jack: 1 RCA video inputs: 2 rear Audio The 23HLV87's bottom-mount speakers deliver stereo sound, but for those with a 5.1 surround sound system, the 23HLV87 outputs Dolby Digital and dts digital audio from the DVD player through an optical port. A front headphone jack allows you to watch TV without disturbing those around you--perfect for late-night viewing. Toshiba's StableSound feature maintains television volume within a preset range regardless of the source signal. This is an extremely useful feature when transitioning between a quiet television program and a very loud commercial advertisement or when changing channels. easy to operate
It almost looks like a monitor. The resolution is not what I expected its not bad but it didnt meet my expectation. It did not come with any cables except the power cord. It is easy to operate.
So far so good... like the built in dvd feature
We purchased this for our boy's playroom. I had to do something to reclaim our family room tv so now they can watch their shows in their room while having all their toys with them too. We haven't had the problems I've read in other reviews of this model so overall we have been extremely satisfied. The dvd feature is a plus as we didn't want to overcrowd the room with components to make this work for their movies. The price was decent although it does keep fluctuating from time to time.
I would buy again
For 399 shipped I am very happy with this TV. The only thing I don't like about it is that the digital tuner is very slow!
Absolutely impressed
Must admit I was very skeptical about purchasing my first LCD HD TV online however, this model was delivered today and all I can say is WOW! It took me 5 minutes to hook up and we were on our way. I have absolutely no technical knowledge but I do have a little common sense. I was able to take the TV from the box to fully functioning in no time. The picture is great and the DVD player is astounding and I don't have HD yet. Can't wait to see the improvement after HD programming. Highly recommend...great product...great price.
Very good HDTV picture, poor DVD picture
I really wanted to like this television, given that I purchased it at such a good price, and it appeared to have all of the features I wanted. The picture quality on hdtv channels is very good - not quite as nice as my Sharp, but still very nice and certainly acceptable. I wish I could say the same about the DVD player however. I was really disappointed with the picture quality from the dvd player and as a result this unit will be returned. I tried tweaking the picture settings to improve the picture, and while I could get it better, I just couldn't get to a level that I desired. Not to mention that it seems that you cannot have different picture settings for the different inputs, which is a big shortcoming, as the settings that provide a very good picture on the hdtv channels provide a very washed out image from the dvd player. There are 3 other preset picture settings, but none adjusted the dvd picture to a level I was happy with, and having to reset the settings based on dvd vs hdtv would be very cumbersome. Perhaps there is a way to save the settings for each input, but I couldn't figure it out, and the settings never adjusted the dvd to a good enough level anyway. I assume that the DVD player is not progressive scan like you can get on many competitors' models now. I also must agree with others - the dvd startup is shockingly loud, irritatingly so. I also disliked that there appears to be no program info from hdtv channels being received, which I get from my years old Sharp. One other thing, small but very annoying, is the procedure to add a channel to you favorites. You have to go through several menu screens just to add a channel - a very tedious process. While this should be a one-time setup, it is so easy to wipe out the favorites list since the channel program button is mapped to one of the buttons on the remote normally used for the DVD player and can be easily hit by mistake. Pros: -Very good picture quality from HDTV channels -Very affordable (when I purchased at least) -Built-in DVD player -Every connection that one could ever want Cons: -Relatively poor DVD picture quality (no progressive scan) -No program info for HDTV channels -Resetting the channels is much too easy, which wipes out all of your favorites, which is a very tedious process of entry -Very noisy DVD upon startup and whenever going to DVD menu All in all, an okay product if you are looking for a combination tv-dvd and this fits your price point. However, if you plan to use the dvd player anything more than occasionally, I suggest looking for a combination unit that includes a progressive dvd player, since the quality here just doesn't match the quality of the hdtv broadcasts, and there seem to be offerings around the same price point as this unit that offer the progressive scan.
